There appear to be three main routes through to what you're looking for:
1) If you sign-in via the SV Home Page (or, once signed-in, if you click on the main Official Community of Suzanne Vega image banner at the top of the page (currently the blue picture with SV looking out of a window)) then you should see a blue clickable 'My Account' link at the top of the page. That will take you through to a page where you can edit your account settings or profile information. This is the way to edit your registered profile details, some of which remain private and can't be accessed by other users. (ie to change your email address, home address, and password.)
The 'My Account' link only seems to appear if you sign-in via the suzannevega.com Home Page. In other words if you're accessing the Undertow forum directly using a saved link (ie Favourite or Bookmark) such as http://www.suzannevega.com/forums/ then the My Account option might not show up.
2) If you've signed-in, say via the Home Page, but your sign-in name still shows as white at the top of the screen, then an easy way to change it to a clickable blue link is to select Message Boards from the Community drop-down tab just below the banner.
If you then click on that (blue) name link it should take you to another Edit Profile page, where you can change things like your Signature and Bio, Avatar, Email and Site Preferences. You need to click Save Changes for the changes to be put into effect. ** To get out of that screen and back to the Undertow Forum you just need to select Message Boards from the Community drop-down tab. **
3) Forum Subscription preferences (ie to select which forums you receive emails from) can be selected individually while you're browsing a particular forum. You can use either the Forum Options button at the bottom of a forum index page, or the Enable Email Subscription button at the top of individual threads.
Alternatively, and probably more easily, you can see the whole range of forum subscription options if you select Forum Subscriptions from the Shortcuts menu on the left of the main Undertow forum page.

Having said all that I'm not sure it's all working as it should. At least, when I tried to swap around some password and email preferences recently they didn't work, so I think the best way to think of it is like a slightly rickety database with a few loose connections and dead ends. I expect it'll be sorted out eventually.
