    My Favourite Song

I like this as its a pure & simple observation of desire. Fruit is the perfect trope (since we are descendants of monkeys).

Has the funereal flavour of a Jewish lament and yet the dangerous twang of a 60's spy theme music in a humorous combination of self reproach and foreboding.

    plums can be so tricky

This is a great song, the metaphore of plum is so intelligible and subtle!
I mean god knows how many times I've stood under a tree and looked up desperately at a fruit dangling between the branches out of reach.
And the piteous thing is that the most remote and high fruits happen to be the best ones!

And now every other desired thing could be just like that fruit!
The song itself is so soothing and peaceful, works like a tranquilizer for me.

This is one of those songs that everybody can understand and feel it! (unless you've never seen a fruit on a tree!:P)

I guess I cannot let this go without replying........ just love this song. So much longing for that forbidden fruit....

    Eve, with her basket,was
Deep in the bells and grass
    Up to her knees.
    Picking a dish of sweet
    Berries and plums to eat,
Down in the bells and grass
    Under the trees.

I hear this song and I AM Eve.........

    Chris.

I'd actually come here to make the same comment about '60s spy film music, and I see that Richard beat me to it about 18 months ago.

I adore this song. It reminds me of the theme to 'The Ipcress File', it reminds me of Michel Legrand's fantastic theme music for 'The Go-Between', but most of all it reminds of the theme music to one of my favourite TV programmes of all time - the old late '60s BBC drama, 'Callan', about an ex-convict on the edge of society, blackmailed into working as a professional killer for the British government, a job he loathes.

Listening to 'My Favourite Plum', I can almost see the bare lightbulb swinging in the damp cellar .. it carries the same dark melancholy of the 'Callan' theme.
