August 15, 2003 Red Bank, NJ

A nice town where Bruce Springsteen lives and a theater where he does all his benefit concerts. Got there and realized it was a venue where Tom Jones and Natalie Cole were booked to play, and was glad I had worn my dressy pink Converse in honor of the situation. Had a great lunch at the “Broadway Diner”, which is nicer (in a stylized way) than any real diner you’ll find on Broadway.

Nice sense of relief seeing the band again after all that time with just me and Mike. Speaking of Mike he was recovering from an impromptu blackout party he had instigated with some friends the night before, where they all sat outside drinking Margaritas and beer and eating pizza. It was hot and dark and a crowd gathered and ended up singing songs in the street, and reciting poetry.

I myself didn't have too bad a time of the blackout since I was in New York City, but was at the gym a few blocks away. (I was getting a massage actually, so I was already in the dark.) Ruby, Glynn and I spent most of the evening over at my sisters house trying to think of how we were going to find my mother who was marching up Broadway from Brooklyn. AT 6PM she was at City Hall. Finally at 10PM she showed up having taken two buses.
