Hi,
I've just read Suzanne's last post and I'm puzzled about the "disappointing sales" of B&C...I don't know exactly the number of CDs sold in the US but how did it go worldwide...It seems to me that the numbers are not too bad...
I read in a magazine Suzanne's audience has changed (as she signed Blue Note) and now people who used to listen to jazz are turning towards her music... And the music industry has also changed (sometimes againts it will) now with the internet. Do they count the volume of the downloadable materials in the sales? "Frank & Ava" and "Ludlow Street" (the singles) were only available on downloadable format as far as I can remember.
To my opinion the sales aren't the main parameter of the success of an artist anymore because nowadays we have so many ways to buy ( I didn't say "to get") music ( By the way, do they take it the account the B&C sales on eBay or second hand music online shops?)
Some bands like Radiohead also sell their music by themselves online. Madonna left Warner Music as she considers the incomes of her concerts are sufficient. Some people also say the CDs are just now "promotional supports"...
For those reasons, disappointing sales may be relativized as Suzanne is known worldwide and she's still touring and some of her shows are even sold out...That means the success is still there. And 25 years in the music industry is more than a honorable career.
Sorry for beeing long, happy holidays to everybody on this board and thank you Suzanne for a such eventful year!
