Great show, Suzanne and Mike. Saw both shows, met some cool 'Towies and best of all got to chat with Suzanne and Mike after the shows. Really approachable, friendly people. Highlights of the set included two new songs (Edith Wharton's Figurines; Unbound (?) song about a plant) and one new-ish song, Anniversary, which was only sung at the first show (2nd show crowd was a bit rowdier and ruder) Also sizzling bass licks on Blood Makes Noise and Left of Center, and on the Rogers & Hart-penned final song, "Doctor Jones". Actually amazing bass playing from Mikey throughout. He virtually orchestrates each song - bravura performance. Suzanne shone on "In Liverpool", which gains pensiveness from the stripped-down treatment. First show got Rosemary and Anniversary (a song which bought tears to my eyes), second show recieved Some Journey and Calypso instead. Great storytelling from Suzanne, esp. on 2nd show "In Liverpool", 1st show "Anniversary", both shows "Unbound". The theatre was gorgeous, too - in a L.A. - like area of Austin overlooking wooded hills, beautiful balconies, lots of detail in the architecture - an actual THEATRE - very different from the bar-like setting she played at 2 years ago in Austin (Antone's).
Thank you thank you Suzanne and Mike for gracing us unworthy Texans with your presence! And please do come to Houston as well next time - we'll be there with bells on!
