    Congratulations Catherine!

I'm so happy that you are the one who won the chair. I'm sure you'll take care of it in a wonderful way.

Send us photos when you put it in your house :-)

    all the best;

    All's well that ends well!
My most sincere congratulations to the winner!

Tell the truth, Catherine: without the little troubles you mentioned, it would have been less interesting! ;-)
This way, you have a story to tell and a great moment to remember.

    Hey Catherine,

Way to go! I've been lurking on E-Bay for the past few weeks -- I had only bought two items in the past, but I've been on lately looking for Katharine Hepburn memorabilia for my wife's birthday (she's a rabid Kate Hepburn) fan. So far I've bought a Sotheby's auction catalog from her estate, a "Playbill" from her 1939 Broadway production of "The Philadelphia Story", and best of all, an autographed postcard dated 1939 which as best I can tell is authentic. It's currently at the frame shop. Looking at the bidding you went through, you bested some real pros (you can tell by the number of items they've bought). You're right about those folks swooping in at the end -- it's called "sniping", and I've both succeeded and failed doing this; it's the best way I've found to get a good price on an item -- doesn't drive the bid up, you see, but you take a chance that you won't get it. Anyway, I'm in agreement with the the other Towies -- it couldn't go to a better owner. Be sure to post pictures!

    Dear,

Zeynep: Thank you! I will definitly send photos of the chair when it arrives—but be patient. I believe it takes 6-8 weeks for them to ship the chair. Right now it is in Santa Monica with the Grammy people—it will be sent from there. I hope they give me a better timeframe as it gets closer—obviously, I'll need to be home!

Gianluca: You're right, the 'drama' behind all of this making for a good story—especially with the Grammy people, who I cannot say enough good things about. Hours before the auction was about to close I was writing (what I considered) futile e-mail's to Melissa James from the Grammy Foundation. She tried contacting me on Sat., but I was out and missed her call.

Apparently she DID read the e-mail I sent just 2 hours before the auction closed regarding my various dilemma's. She called on my work line (I was on it at the time), and then called on my home phone. Without her efforts, I'm not sure the chair would be heading my way! I just kept in mind what Uncwilly said from the start—that this was a charity auction for a good cause.

Jim: And thank you, too! Here is the truth—I have only been on eBay twice—both for Suzanne's benefit items! I only know about the "sniping" because that took place with the Secret Closet Auction for the dress, and I expected it to happen again with the chair.

So, unlike many of you who can find your way around and know what to do there, I don't. E-Bay is such a maze to me, I just bookmarked Suzanne's page and sat in front of the computer for 10 minutes before the auction closed. I knew how to refresh the page and place a bid, why it kept listing my bid price (which never changed from the high bidder price last week), I couldn't tell you. As for the "pros"—I'd have to go back and figure out how to look them up (I know Dave, of course—sorry Dave, that was a little weird)!

About looking for Kate H. stuff for your wife—I'm sure she already has the "People" magazine special edition issue (entirely devoted to Kate), right? If not, contact me at my home e-mail address. But it sounds like you've got some REAL goodies, this was on newstands everywhere when it was released....

And finally, I did give Suzanne my promise that it would have a good home—I see it as a piece of art—not something to sit on. Time to wax the floors!

    Love, Catherine

Congratulations Catherine! So glad you got it. What with your other SV memorabilia, and now with this one-of-its-kind, made by Suzanne Vega chair, looks like you can start a future Suzanne Vega museum!?

    Dear,

Wendy and Corina: Ah, although I have 3 things which I consider "especially special," I am a 'Baby Tow' when it comes to collecting all things Suzanne.

Read thought the threads and listen to what some of these Towies have collected, and hunted down over the years and you will see that I go quite far back in line.

However, I could combine those 3 "especially special" things and take a photo of me in the purple dress, standing beside the chair, with my guitar (signed by both Suzanne and Ruby)! Now THAT would be some photo!

Corina, I'm glad to see you've popped back onto the MB again, you have been missed. Thank you both for your congratulations, it's very endearing that you took the time to say so.

    Much Love,
    Catherine

    On the recent comments:

Zeynep—Yes, but it really needs a good setting, you know? Without distractions (like my living room). I'll have to think about this one. I was only kidding, it seems a bit narcissistic to me, although Corina has been bugging about the dress photo for 2 years now!

    Spikes—Thanks, my friend!

    Zoli—The same thanks!!!

Annika—Yes, and YOU were the optimist, and I the pessimist on this one. But I think my tale explains why I took the position I did at the time. Ah! OK, I only saw the URL as an e-mail address, thanks.

Will keep you posted as to when the big ("miniature") arrival will take place...

    Love, Catherine
