    Don't know if this qualifies as a "sighting" or not. A recent entry on Tom Tommorrow's blog --

    "Irrelevant but tangentially related anecdote: I lived up near Columbia for several years, back when my wife the professor was still in grad school, and I probably walked past the Goddard Institute at least once a day.

    ...the Goddard Institute occupies space in this completely unremarkable brick building at the corner of 112th and Broadway:

    [pictures of building]

    And if you look closer, you may recognize the building from a completely different context, at least if you were ever a "Seinfeld" fan:

    I always thought it was a strange juxtaposition at ground level, tourists constantly stop and pose for photos in front of a restaurant famous because it was used as an establishing shot on a popular television show (and whose interior, incidentally, bears absolutely no resemblence to the diner on the show), while a few floors above, scientists are trying to predict the fate of the planet.

    (Bonus trivia: Tom’s was also the inspiration for a song on Suzanne Vega’s first album.)"

    M—

    I think this definitely qualifies! It gives anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to see Tom's Diner visually, to do so.

    So, perhaps the "sophisticated Milanese" will use this as inspiration to join in and clap from the beginning of "our part" when they see Suzanne perform it live, next time!

    BTW—the food is really terrible there (now). I still feel proud walking past it, though. And you KNOW what is playing in my head when I do. "Duh da duh da...."

    Do dreams qualify?

    Last night I had this funny one. I was with someone in a restaurant when we spotted Suzanne on a corner, playing her guitar discretely to 3 or 4 people. We finished our meal, paid the bill, and joined Suzanne and the other Towies (as they revealed to be). Suzanne was sitting facing us, with her guitar, but actually she was chatting more than playing. It felt exciting to be there in such a familiar environment.

    Later Ruby joined, and Suzanne told us she would be singing on tour from now on, doing backing vocals, mainly on the high pitch notes Suzanne can't reach anymore. They sang a song together, and I felt it made all the sense.

    I woke up trying to hum the song so that I could find out which one was, but it's gone...

    Anyway, if this or something similar ever happens, remember, I was there first, in a dream ;)

    Love,

    I mentionned previously the photo of Suzanne in the Ramada hotel on Václavské námìstí in the center of Prague. Well here (hopefully) is a photo of the photo in question.

    Wow! Beautiful, Alan—thanks for doing the legwork (I'm assuming) of shooting this and sharing. I don't suppose you asked them "why" or you would have told us!

    Anyone live in Prague? It would be interesting to know...

    Hi Alan,
    That's a different one, though it's also very aesthetic!!
    I have this one on a postcard ,-or a tour card.
    (I should check for sure). Anyway, mine is black and white.
    best,
    Z

    Irrelevant but tangentially related Post Script:

    Not trying to 'jack this thread or anything, but this has been bugging me:

    (Bonus trivia: Tom's was also the inspiration for a song on Suzanne Vega's first album.)

    "Tom's Diner" is, I believe, the first track on Suzanne's second album.
    I'm surprised that nobody's caught this (including me, at first).

    Ok, here we go:

    I just came home from seeing the movie "Proof" by Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllenhaal. There was a scene in the film that took place in Paltrow's characters bedroom and during the scene guess what was playing in the radio, in the background?

    Suzanne Vega - (I'll Never be Your) Maggie May
    :-)

    I really wasn't expecting that so it was a great surprise for me.

    wanted to share this with you;

    all the best,

    Zeynep

    Ok Zeynep, this is my most shameful Undertow moment.

    I saw that movie a couple of months ago, and I didn't spot the song. I don't deserve to be a Towie :-(

    Funny thing is that I was with another Towie who also didn't spot it. Or am I so senile I don't remember anymore? I won't tell names not to hurt other people's Towie status :P

    Oh my God J.C!! How could you!!?

    Haha just kidding :-) Don't worry about it, the song was barely audible and the characters were having an important dialogue at that scene.

    Because of being concentrated on the song I missed the entire conversation but I caught it up later. :P

    best;

    Zeynep

    Jose, it's not a shame! Especially, if there's a nice girl -or woman -on the seat next to you...!
    Sometimes there is other 'action' which can distract your attention from the screen,- in the visual, and then in the 'audio' way as well. I mean, when you lose contact from the outside world for some moments... It could happen that time too- we suppose that:-)

    So it seems everything was fine,and you don't need any excuse :-)
    Zeynep also pointed out that the song in the film was not that audible- was in the background on the radio. I'm sure Suzanne won't resent for this either! Don't worry.
    So, Jose, please, don't give up your Towie status!!!

    best wishes,
    Zoli

    Yesterday I walked in from outside, sat down and turned on the radio....

    ... out flowed the liquid sounds of "Caramel".

    Also a while back I walked into a big electronic store and what I hear? "Caramel", they where playing trailers for movies and Closer was being shown when I walked by. Love to hear that song in public.

    Check this out. In the Dominion store grocery shopping I heard Left Of Center the other day. Joe Jackson on piano. Man, that song gets me every time. I stood near the cereal in the aisle just listening. Cool eh????}
