Good to see that I'm not the only one who sent in a tape...

Yeah, I'm not too impressed with the whole business, they guy who was supposed to burn my cd went on holiday and didn't even tell me! Hope the quality of the tape would still be okay when it reaches the last person.

One advantage of the tape is that you can get in at least 10 more minutes of music.

I'm looking forward to receiving it!

I was considering including Mick Jagger's cover
of "Use Me" on my CD at one point - but didn't.

First thing I'll do is copy the tape, so I
    don't wear it out.

    Many thanks

It didn't occurr to me at all that there might be a problem of wearing out the tape..
Anyway - if my tape is no longer audible write an e-mail to Cams, since he agreed to make a copy.

    Cheers,
    Annika

Ooops, I already made my own topic, but it disappeared, or something. And I don't have the tracklist with me. So.... next week... I promise.

The tape arrived - many thanks.
I will listen to it a few times before I post anything.

That's good to know, I really do hope u like it. Three of the tracks are original South African.
Mandoza, Tkzee and The Springbok Nude Girls.

I've listened to the tape maybe 6 times now, and got to the stage where it's going round and round in my head. There is a lot of interesting percussion and rhythm here, which is good for me.
None of the tracks were ones I knew before, except that "Connected" was used in an advert, and I've got a (very very) different version of "Use Me". I'm reluctant to single out any particular favourites, but if you insisted, I'd have to mention "Careless" and "Worthless" - I don't know if that constitutes a description of me or not!

This has been really good - - I'm often aware of how limited my selection of music is, and this gives me a whole collection of new places to start exploring ! Huge amounts of thanks.

    Hi Danielle,

I received your tape a while ago. I have only listened to the first half of the first side so far. It seems you're into strong bass rhythms and a lot of percussion. I associate the first 4 songs with music I'd hear in a night club. It's great to dance to!
The only song I know is What I can do for you by Sheryl Crow. That's a nice one. I was never aware of the bass until I listened to it in connection with the other songs! It's really amazing.
Hope I can write a little more on the other songs soon!

    Cheers,
    Annika

    Dear Annika,

Thanks, for your letter. I must say I was so excited about this tree, but I actually feel that my tape doesn't really fit in now. I used to listen to music with a lot of words, but as I have grown older I battle to assosiate with it. The funny thing is I don't really club or anything like that,I just like rhythm.Words have lost their meaning somehow.

By the way, I'm still listening to this collection about twice a week - it's still growing on me. I'm not sure what you mean about not fitting in... were we supposed to "fit in" with something??? Nearly all the music that is most important to me doesn't have any words... with the exception of Suzanne.

    Hi,

I guess, you're right Mike. I don't think it's important "to fit in". At least this wasn't the idea as far as I'm concerned. I just put on some tracks I really like on my compilation and that's it. I don't expect everyone to like it.
Danielle, when I said your tape reminded me of night clubbing, it wasn't a negative remark at all.

Well, by now, I guess I can say, it's just not my music. But that doesn't mean it's bad. Who am I to judge?! If you like it yourself, that's great!! As for me, I would have to be in the right mood to listen to it or in the right surroundings, e.g. a night club. But too much rhythm gives me a headache, sorry! And if I don't give a detailed review on each song (shame on me...) it's because to me they all sound the same. But that's just me. Maybe I don't listen to them distinctively enough, but then this isn't music I would listen to more than once. Bad me. :-( Hey, but there's still hope: I haven't listened to the Björk and Dido tracks yet. I like some of Björk and some of Dido. So maybe there's something in for me?

    Cheers,
    Annika

    Hi Danielle,

just wanted to let you know that I really, really liked Isabel by Björk and Me by Paula Cole. I probably would have to listen to more of them in order to be able to say whether I like their music.

I'm afraid I really don't like Kate Bush. I have no clue why Tori Amos is so much compared with her. To my ear they have completely different voices!

Anyway - thanks for your compilation, Danielle. At least I had a chance to listen to Björk more closely which is great. I never had that chance before.

    Cheers,
    Annika
