As awful as that shooting must have been, you know Marc Cohn gets mileage out of it. Cohn's wife or girlfriend: Oh my God, I had such a horrible day. Cohn: Really? Interesting. Was it as bad as the time I was shot in the head? Cohn's friend: The most terrifying thing happened last night... Cohn: What? Did you get shot in the head, 'cause that's what happened to me once. Oh, you were saying? Go on... ("graphomania <psychiatry> Morbid and excessive impulse to write.")

So what i understand from Suzanne's latest (11/21) blog is that every time Marc Cohn is either touring or comes out with a new album, fans in Kansas City get screwed out of seeing Suzanne Vega. But what i also got out from that blog is that Suzanne really wants to make it up to those folks in KC. That gets me thinking (dangerous as it may be); What if we had some way, like a provided incentive of some sort, of getting fans from other areas to KC to make this work ? (to get enough tix sold). Or if we made a donation for KC folks to travel to a non-canceled venue, & were awarded a future download of a song or two that did not make it onto Beauty & Crime. Just trying to get the ball rolling with the thought process. And to find a way to make everyone happy & fortunate enough to see Suzanne on what i am sure is gonna be an unforgettable tour by the time it's all said & done.

I'll suggest another great book about life on the road. Ian Hunter's "Diary Of A Rock And Roll Star", taken from his diaries during a 70's tour with his old band, Mott The Hoople. It's a real treat. Very insightful and funny as all get out. To SV...how about a train tour? 2 or 3 cars of your own for band and crew. Play at a stop and jam on the way there. Train travel rocks.

As far as recommended stops for SV in KC or surrounding areas .. I don't quite think that a city 2hrs west of St. Louis qualifies as Kansas City area. (I have nothing against the Blue Note in Columbia, I've seen my fair share of shows there). My recommendation for venues in KC area are simple , play in Lawrence. More venues, college town so higher likelyhood of people, more of a "scene" like that little strip of places like at the St. Louis show. KC has the Grand Emporium that would seem to fit the bill. There are a few others like the Uptown theater, the Hurricane and Davey's uptown. Tho the first one is a huge venue and might be subject to the same problem as Harrah's and the last two are pretty much dive bars. Lawrence has the Leeds Center, the Granada, Liberty Hall, The Bottleneck and a few others. Bottleneck is a college town dive, but the others are quite inviting for your sort of show.

"I have an idea. I am going to go over this Tour Diary again from time to time, correcting, adding, embroidering the days and entries, so every time you read it it will be slightly different! Like a book in the Harry Potter movies. Depending on what memory I have of the day. So we’ll have the original event - then the recurrence of the event - then the memory of the event. Then the other memories of the event. So stay tuned." Wow, that sounds like an extremely annoying habit. Who is going to read all that stuff, especially more than once?

you have a point gumboots. reading everything in order to spot the differences and enhancements can be a heavy task if you've accompanied every blog entry (Nothing that won't be solved with a special 'Towie-Hero Xmas Badge for prize to the best eye)
But i'm with huntre, i think Suzanne's idea is revitalizing. And at the end of it, the blog will be much richer -a deluxe edition - with an extra re-reading value.Convenient for this Christmas, since add-ons and extra footage are a trend during this season, and not even bloggers can avoid it anymore;)

Gumboots are you kidding? Suzanne is allowing us access to her Pensieve! What a privilege! I'll be honoured to read her memories, and her perspectives of those memories and beyond!

So Cookie got SV to watch a Led Zeppelin DVD. That's inspiring. I'm inspired to want to send Cookie some other DVDs for the bus, so SV will have some cool stuff to watch. How about Carole King's Living Room Tour, Pink Floyd's making of Dark Side of the Moon, BB King's June show of Jefferson Starship, Quicksilver Messenger Service, & Big Brother & the Holding Company, David Gilmour's "Remember That Night" (incl. tour bus footage with Gilmour, Wright, Crosby & Nash so SV can watch tour bus footage while on a tour bus herself), Crosby Stills, & Nash's "Long Time Coming", String Cheese Incident, Jim Croce Live, Raspberries 2005 reunion show & some old clips,

Cool "devil's shoes" for Teddy - wonder if that would fly for me around the office. Could be risky though. (Once reserved folks start letting things go, or out, it sometimes is tough to put the cork back in the bottle. They can be pretty irritating, start showing up with devil's horns next thing you know. Geez, some people.)

As I understood it was LedZepp's The Song Remains The Same DVD? It was not their best video performance. The best one was at Earls Court in 1975. And I love this idea of embroidering more memories in the Blog. Usually I read each Blog entry several times thinking about wording, people, events, something that can be behind of lines. Yes, we are guests. And yes, it's a privilege. Thank you.

It might have been "How The West Was Won" which includes some Madison Square Garden footage, as well as Earl's Court and others. Excellent sound on that one. That crazy Suzanne. She grows. She changes. I still love the idea.

I like it! Very postmodern -- the text that changes after you've read it, similar to the concept of the unreliable narrator in literature (not that Suzanne is unreliable!), or maybe the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Can you read the Tour Diary without altering its contents? Are you sure Suzanne said she was in Atlanta, or was it maybe Charlotte? Was that really a picture of snow in her latest entry or was it rain? Is it possible she was in New Hampshire and Hawaii on the same day? Will the Soldier have the Queen killed this time? Will blood make silence? Maybe it will do to think of caramel.
I can only imagine the possibilties. Or maybe not. Just remember: You never read this message. Anyway, I do sincerely look forward to reading whatever embroidered entries Suzanne cares to post. Thank you!
