The Queen & The Soldier is my favorite Suzanne Vega track although as you all know it's hard to have an absolute favorite due to song quality Suzanne manages time and time again. The real good thing is you can go buy a CD and KNOW you are going to be humming and singing (in your head in my case) to all the tunes after a few runs. Near to perfect albums must be the hardest thing to accomplish for any band/group/singer but Suzanne does manage this every time and all song are not just a re-hash of others ether.
    I hope many agree

The Queen & The soldier has interesting words as usually Suzanne's songs has. But this one is really like fantasy. It is a story which could be shown. We can imagine and see this Queen and Soldier.

Happy birthday to the Earl of Essex, born (by some accounts at least) November 19, 1566.

One-time lover (and love?) of Elizabeth I, beheaded by her for treason.

    From Wikipedia:

Elizabeth was a short-tempered, sometimes indecisive ruler. Her motto was video et taceo: "I see but say nothing".  This strategy, viewed with impatience by her counsellors, often saved her from political and marital misalliances. She was reluctant to grant honours and dignities and created only nine new peers during her reign.

    From Juice Newton:

"Playing with the queen of hearts,
    knowing it ain't really smart"

You were my Soldier and I was your Queen. I knew it was left one direction and my order was heard. But then I cried, I cried very much that I won't see you again.
