exterior beauty and inner beauty: do they match in our minds? do we love ourselves enough so they can be one and the same? one the reflection of the other?

and some of the sharpest lines suzanne has ever written: "see the portrait come to life, see the vanity behind, cause in the struggle for survival, love is never blind".

Lust is never blind, certainly.  And romantic love without lust is....well, what exactly is it?  Is it romantic love at that point?   Honestly haven't figured that out yet.

Inner beauty does not equal outer beauty, and vice versa.  At the same time, we fall in love partly with the outer - and I think that is perfectly legitimate...to a point.

I think only women really understand the highs and lows of beauty deeply.   Thus, I feel I may be in the wrong thread here....sorry ladies.

    gumboots:

Inner beauty does not equal outer beauty, and vice versa.

this isn't what i meant, at all, gumboots. we tend to have a mental image of our outer selves but we very scarcely have one of our inner selves, because it requires a different kind of 'vision' and interior search. and when we do have these images often they don't match, meaning we attribute different values to them, when they should be valued equally.

maybe this is a rather spiritual look at beauty but it's the one i believe in. and in suzanne's music there's a constant dare to "see within", to have the sight that enables you to look "underneath the skin" of others and yourself.
