yes, both "predictions" and "penitent" are songs questioning the
future and asking for guidance. "predictions" assembles everyday
objects and ways that "will tell you something". "penitent" is much
more insistent in its query and daring in its quest since it directs
everything to a "You" whom you may or may not obey in the end.
but
there's another song i always put together with these two and that's
"pilgrimage", because at the root of all of them is the need to find
and fulfill what one's meant to do, and hopefully leave a mark, make a
difference: "an inch and a step toward a source" and drawing one's
"fist against eternity".
so the connection, to me, is more
between "pilgrimage" and "penitent". and actually in that penitent
there's a pilgrim still.
chance is the only thing that doesn't happen by chance
