bobking. After reading several of your posts, I'm compelled to ask the following.

Are you sure that you're a Suzanne Vega fan? You bait folks with pointed barbs, use sarcasm to an extreme and, in the case of Marc Cohn, replace humor with bad taste. Why? What do you stand to gain? I don't understand your agenda.

Huntre: What are you talking about???? I don't remember ever making any remarks about Marc Cohn, so I'm hoping you're mistaking me for someone else.

I do plead guilty to having bad taste, an inappropriate sense of humor and a tendency toward nihilistic sarcasm, as well as an atrocious fashion sense*. (In my defense, though, I like cheese.) But I just doublechecked, and yep, I'm pretty sure I'm a Suzanne Vega fan. Sad to say, it seems that liking Suzanne's music does not scrub one's psyche of all negative qualities (even though it should).

Lest my last post be misunderstood: When I said "I like it!" in response to Suzanne's remarks about augmenting her tour diary entries, my underlying meaning was: I like it. As Sally Field would put it, I really, really like it. Not sure what pointed barb you thought was contained therein.

So what's your agenda? Whatever it is, I think it's out of order, and I move to table.

*I suppose "overfondness for Robert's Rules of Order" belongs on this list as well.

I refer to post# 21704 in this thread about Cohn. It has your name on it.

In post# 21919, about SV's idea of updating blog entries, "Wow. That sounds like an extremely annoyng habit. Who's going to read all that stuff, especially more than once?"

Post# 21824, in "Tow Lounge", you tried to bait this site with putdowns of Lou Reed, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan among others. To what end?

There's three, for starters.  I await your reply.

OK, here's my reply: None of those are mine.

    Wanna try another three?

Also, did anyone else here not notice before that every post has a number on it? Wouldn't it be awkward if real life worked like this?

"Hey, at Christmas dinner last year you said #12,816,901,417, and then after you had four more glass of Yellowtail you said, #12,816,901,623. I response, I'd like to refer you to Vice President Cheney's comment to Senator Pat Leahy, #10,823,375,212."

My most public apologies, bobking. I, obviously, meant gumboots. It's still a valid concern.

It was a brain fart on my part.

Apologies accepted. My brain farts all the time.

Also, many, many years ago, I did devote an entire post to the wonders of scratching one's butt. I'm truly sorry to anyone who remembers reading that one. (Although, truthfully, it can be a lot of fun.)

From the very start I realized that huntre meant someone else. Mb it's a good idea for you both to edit  all your last posts and to address the issue to the correct person?

Uhm, according to post #21954, i think there's no need for them to edit coz the message was received. (seriously).

Asking Bob "Are you even a Suzanne Vega fan??" is priceless, even if it wasn't intended to him:) (i also knew it wasn't targeted to him, but being a diplomat, i only observe and eat popcorns). It's one of those stories with a neat ending, but of course, if i had been involved in it, i would be at the hospital emergency being reanimated. My time shall come sooner or later anyway, but until then, this enters to top3. Number 1 , of course, is when Epstein erased us all from the database as revenge.

I've been away, and checking in just now . . .  I see an incredible display of human emotions evolved here that found its way back to a peaceful place.  Bobking, I mistakenly attributed a quote to you not long ago too  - I hope you aren't feeling picked-on.  In fact, that misqoute came from one of the sites you quoted, Huntre.  Wasn't that thread titled in such a way as to make clear it was being controversial purposefully to spark conversation??  Personally, I think I'd be bored to tears if we all agreed on everything always, and I know that often the best discussions can start when the devil's advocate chimes-in.

What strikes me most about all this is how real the discussion has been.  I think that that is the true beauty of this MB over others -- Suzanne has attracted thinking, feeling fans, and so the level of humanity expressed here rises way above so many other sites.  Apologies are expressed and accepted, support and corrections freely given, humble-pie shared where needed.

Now, is anyone else having issues with adorable kitten photos posted on this MB ??Wink   Happy Holidays everyone.   Peace,  Ra

Re: Suzanne's Blog for Mon 3rd Dec 2007:

    Valery:
As I understood it was LedZepp's The Song Remains The Same DVD? It was not their best video performance. The best one was at Earls Court in 1975.

I went to the Friday night performance at Earls Court (23/05/75) and it was indeed an exciting concert, but the sound could have been better for the in-house audience.  Zepp created a thunderous noise, as you might imagine, but Earls Court is a cavernous space and the sound echoed off the sides, seemingly going in and out of phase in a kind-of muddy fashion and swirling around.  Looking at it differently it probably enhanced the live effect in some ways, adding to the chaos.  I expect the sound on the video/DVD was clearer, taken straight off the desk.

Around that time, as a student, I used to have a summer holiday job in a large mental hospital set deep in the Sussex countryside.  I worked there for three days a week, from 7am to 9pm, with three hours off in the afternoon.  Peter Grant - Led Zepp's manager - lived in the local village, Hellingly, (pronounced Helling-lie) in a medieval manor house called Horselunges, complete with moat and drawbridge.  I think it might feature briefly in the 'Song Remains The Same', if that was the DVD that people were watching on the tour bus.  I went down there once or twice on hot summer afternoons and it was a lovely place to be.

By complete chance I found myself standing next to Robert Plant at a country fair a couple of years ago when we were both admiring the artistic work of a local blacksmith.  I feel it's my duty to report, given Suzanne's description of him from the DVD, that he was no longer wearing a little girly blouse over a bare chest, but was still cutting a decidedly ungirlish figure in a country jacket and boots, hair as wild as ever.

It's good to see Robert Plant doing so well again with his Raising Sand album with Alison Krauss.  I've seen him a few times with his own bands - including the acoustic stage at Glastonbury when Suzanne was headlining, if I remember correctly - and he's always seemed pretty down to earth and serious about his music.  It's the Led Zepp reunion concert at the O2 Arena (ie Millennium Dome) in London tomorrow night.  After that I imagine Plant's big decision will be how to fit in a few Zepp gigs (despite what they say about the O2 being a one-off) along with his tour with Alison next summer.

First off, thanks to all for the feedback. My posts should remain, warts and all. Their faults were honest ones and things are righted. The heart of the message is still valid. On with the show. The footage of Zep at Earl's Court is some of best I've seen or heard. The multi-track board mix was used for the dvd, "How The West...". It's clear as a bell and the 5.1 is killer. Chris? You are one of the fortunate. I love "Raising Sand" almost as much as Joni Mitchell's "Shine". But. it's hard to beat a masterpiece.

Yep, I did feel fortunate to be there.  As a student in New York the following year (76/77) I tried to get tickets for Zep's gigs at Madison Square Garden, but lost out in the postal ballot.

Thanks for the info about the Earl's Court DVD - ie: the board mix and 5:1 sound.  I must remember to get it.  That'll be the EC segment in the 5-hour 2003 DVD I assume.  I should emphasise that the sound being put out by the loudspeakers at Earls Court was excellent, which was obvious during the quieter sequences; it was just that the louder music (ie most of the concert and the drumming in particular) was fighting against the poor acoustics of the venue.  It was absolutely thunderous, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

I did see "The Song Remains The Same" video a few years ago but I know they had problems with the production of that film.  The 'fantasy' sequences were inserted to make the best of a bad job and I know they weren't very happy with it. I've heard that the new TSRTS DVD has been re-edited to correct a lot of the original faults, improving the synchronisation of sound and vision, so I'll check that one out too sometime.

    Cheers,

    Chris
