The Virgin Records Megastore in New York City's Union Square proved the perfect venue for
kicking off the release of RetroSpective, as first-day-of-sale purchasers were rewarded
with a commorative photo pass to an "In-Megastore" mini-concert and CD signing.

Thanks to Virgin Records Megastore, WFUV and Suzanne Vega for making this an event to remember
-- and of course to all the "RetroSpective"-buying fans in attendance, for making it such a resounding success!

*whew*! i was afraid i'd see myself in the crowd shots! (i had been up since 6am that day, and NObody would want to see a picture of that! :-)) actually, if you're looking at the pic of everyone standing, and you keep panning back, further...keep going...out of the picture- that's where i was, by the cafe (i couldn't see a thing!). Actually David, I did see you running around with the camera and I thought, "He must be a towie!"
The pictures came out great, though. If you look at the one of the people sitting in the cafe, you can practically read the one guy's newspaper!

    Hi David,

"Following the show, the crowd queued up to have their CD's and memorabilia personalized."

I'm intrigued. Does this mean that Americans have learned to queue at last, instead of just standing in line?

    How civilised.

    Chris

    PS: Ouch!

I wasn't planning to yell anything or be "front and center" It was an accident, really. I got to the store around 5:10pm and was directed to the cafe area. All the seats had been taken, except for a few that were being saved. I was talking to DJHammer for a bit, and got tired of standing. I walked over to this large column that happened to be right in the center of the room and leaned against it. This friend, Mike came over and started talking so I just stayed there. It ended up being right in front of Suzanne and since almost every one around me was seated, I stood out. I don't know where the request for Neighborhood girls came from, except that Suzanne asked for a request NOT on the record, and that song just popped into my head and I yelled it out.
It's funny, I was at the Barnard College gig two weeks ago(Which was very cool) and Suzanne was talking about the upcoming release of Retrospective and to come out to the store, It sounded like she couldn't remember the date and it just blurted out! Sorry Suzanne!. But I Guess it was OK because a whole story came out of my blurting where Suzanne told of her sister Allyson and a boyfriend who had a game. If there was a dispute of any kind, whomever was wrong had to tell the right (correct) person "I'm wrong, you're right" 3 times and then say "You are my Queen/King.
This story got quite a laugh.
Thanks again for playing my request.
And thanks for taking time out to meet your fans and sign the new album.

    Dear Suzanne,
I had the good fortune to catch the in-store at Virgin Union Square during my last trip to New York (I was there singing some lounge jazz downtown and popped out of the subway there).
You are such a unique, deep and sparkling performer. Your songs are so stimulating and thoughtful--and the music stays and stays. I loved the little show and will attend when you come out to San Francisco. And while you're here, if you'd like a ride around town in a 1961 Chrysler, of course I would be honored.
    Sincerely,
