    I can only repeat myself after the wonderful Budapest recital (on July 20, 2006). Tom's Diner was the last song (before the encores). The Hungarian audience was rather shy clapping along so Mike V. had to clap with his hands held above his head showing what to do . So it is definitely Suzanne's wish to involve the audience in this song. I wonder how this idea evolved: I mean, how was this song recieved when she performed it for the first time, was there a spontaeous clapping...

    I just used "Tom's Diner" with my freshmen English classes as part of our poetry unit. This song sparked a huge reaction! At first, the students thought the song was so simple--who cares about someone sitting in a diner? But as we talked, some students picked up on the loneliness of the narrator, the possibility of lost love...
    Some of my kids even hopped on the Internet after class to find out Suzanne's meaning of the song and to see if they could download it onto their MP3 players. Amazing!
