The appeal of Tom's Diner continues to amaze me.
The various remixes, derivatives, and covers are outstanding in number and breadth. I ran across one that was new to me this last Monday.
I was walking amongst the booths at the Los Angeles County Fair. I heard this familiar tune, but the form was unusual. It was coming from a Mexican music booth. The song was something akin to the Banda sound, with the tune of Tom's Diner as a fill between verses. I inquired of the owner, who that was, etc. I walked away with the very CD that had been playing. It turns out that the disc is a best of. Fito Olivares y La Pura Sabrosura is who it is and the song is El Paso del Canguro.

BTW there was a Czech version to it too, about gypsies... the artist refers to gypsy part of Prague as Central park :0
