    A Concert for Change

with Suzanne Vega, David Bromberg, Garland Jeffreys and Jack Hardy

    Sunday October 24, 2004 at 5pm

Concerts for Change, a grassroots organization working across the country to raise money for the DNC and Democratic Swing State Committees, announces a co-production with The Stone House Music Club and Pipe Dream Productions. The stunning line-up of talent will perform October 24th in Englewood NJ.

Concerts for Change has produced 68 shows in 14 cities with over 13,000 concert goers. Through small individual contributions the group has raised $207,000 directly to John Kerry and over $100,000 for Democratic State Committees. Concerts nationwide have featured local artists as well as nationally known stars such as Moby and Jack Black. The Stone House Music Club and Pipe Dream Productions pride themselves in presenting excellent music in intimate settings.

The New York Times hails Suzanne Vega as “the strongest, most decisively shaped songwriting personality to come along in years” and said of David Bromberg, “He has such control of his audience that he can, at one moment, hold it in his hand with a tender, touching yet funny anecdotal song, and then set it romping and stomping with a raucous bit of raunch. He is electrifying”. On Garland Jeffreys The Star Ledger says "This singer-songwriter-guitarist commanded a cult following, convinced that his thoughtful autobiographical songs, Latin-and reggae- tinged political statements and roaring rock anthems (are) hits waiting to happen." and The Boston Globe writes "…(Jack) Hardy shapes his metaphors in a vision that successfully blends history, mythology, romanticism and politics."

On October 24th local businesses, artists and activists will come together with the brightest names in music to support the Kerry/Edwards ticket. Please join us.

Wonderful! It looks like a great event. Let's hope for a real change.
Mmm, Englewood, NJ... It sounds familiar to me!

Gianluca, you know me too well...I've already set a place for you at the dinner table!

I was looking at the weather in Italy when the 2 Tow messages about this event popped up (yours and the announcement)—and immediately switched over. When I saw Englewood, NJ—there went the weather in Italy!

YES! Anything to help get this mope out of office and change things in this country is something that we need to participate in.

Of course the bonus of Suzanne playing 4 blocks from my house is nothing I can ignore—and so, with Visa card in hand, we will be there on the 24th to support the Kerry/Edwards ticket, and now I have to find more work to pay that ever growing Visa bill!

So far I've beaten the odds, you know....from June through October, I haven't missed a month of seeing Suzanne. Now, if Nov. and Dec. pan out, that will make it my "Year of Suzanne!"

Leaving from Rome on the 19th to return to Englewood, Gianluca—shall I pack you in my suitcase? We could walk there, you know?

I was hoping you'd join in, Suzanne...this was one of the only decent Rolling Stone articles I've read in a while—how so many folks from the music industry are putting their efforts into supporting what so many of us are hoping for in November. Thank you for being one of them.

    Much Love,
    Catherine

How lucky CAN one person be?

I couldn't believe when I read Englewood either! Still, I hope we can expect a review on the scale of recent ones. You've set your own standard now!

Seriously, it's great to see so many artists playing benefits on behalf of Kerry and Edwards. It is madening not being able to vote in an election that will affect us as well so we're relying on you guys.

I see from our own press that Kerry came out rather better than Bush in the recent TV showdown which gives me some hope. Then today we see Rumsfeld (or whatever...) confirming what was suspected re. the link between Saddam and Al Qieda. Just when all seemed lost, John Kerry may yet pull it off. Maybe he's the new "Comeback Kid"!

    Dear Mike,

I swear to you—I am the most unlucky person in the world—this year has been a total fluke, but I think it's because someone that I lost to cancer (took care of for 18 months) is looking down on me, finally in peace, and saying "I know what she'd like!" It's just gotta be Lyse, that's all—I know it!

However, think I may have a better plan than Ms. Lurker: OK—gather together the English group and hop the train to Italy where we'll be waiting for Gianluca to come to Rome from Tuscany! We all go back together—and it's a done deal.

There's only one spare bedroom here, but lots of floor space if you don't mind cuddling with Yorkies all night (Lefty can't come, he eats Yorkies... )

Small detail: take a look at the prices on the site. Could any of you pass for "students" to get that rate? I know we're all complaining about B (can't even say his name)—but perhaps you could get the Queen or Tony B. to step in and foot the bill? Actually, it should be taken right from B's own pocket—he could just sell a few cattle or something.

    Love, Catherine
    (who is normally VERY unlucky)

    My dear Catherine,

is it so roomy (remember, I’m 1.83 cm tall)? You are really tempting me, you know? ;-) Of course we will pick you up, Jan!
In case, Catherine, remember the little holes for breathing!
    Have fun, my dear friend.

Besides, I second Fatima in thanking Suzanne for her efforts for the change.
    Thank you!
    Gianluca

Catherine, we have posted at the same time.

Ok then, we will follow your plans!

Suzanne, echoing Fátima's words: thank You deeply for
this!!! I wish You All the best for a coming change!! Let it be!
I really do wish that from my heart!!That madman and his management must be replaced!!
As I told You earlier, here in Hungary over 90 percent of the right wingers for sure would cast their vote (including mine) for Kerry and the Democrats
,- and against the madman in office ,if we were entitled to do so. It's a black and white fact. (It seems here the socialist-liberal 'yes-line' politicians and representatives ,and their followers/supporters wouldn't like that change so much...- (oh, the minute men- nevermind.).

    much love,
    Zoli

So do I hope for change. . .but when 50% still (if the polls are to be believed)think Bush should be up there running things then there could be quite a long way to go!

I'm quite partial to a Yorkie! but as my sons' will vouch they're 'not for girls'

About a week ago I found an interesting article on one of the most authoritative newspaper here in Italy (“Corriere della Sera”), whose title was something like this: "If the world votes for Kerry, and the USA vote for Bush". It was referring, of course, to the polls that were showing (and still show) Bush as the probable winner of the next presidential election. I think this is the important point: we (I mean all the people writing from other countries) can only support you (USA citizens) and stay close to you, but YOU are the only ones who can really made a change possible.
Don't underestimate the right to vote. Go and choose.

    Goodbye, GG

Well, these numbers (recorded in the polls so far) are what is depressing—I think that both Jan and Gianluca's points are well taken.

There is a sickening feeling that many people are voting AGAINST Bush rather than FOR Kerry, (even though I would take that just to get him out of there), in my heart of hearts, I know this is not really a great thing either.

Of course this does not change my mind—but it is a big worry that all Kerry supporters share, and I do remember someone on this board (maybe Zoli—was it you? Sorry—I can't remember the name of the person) saying that "and we know a good feurher (sp?) when we see one" (I'm paraphrasing).

The thought of another 4 years of Bush makes SpongeBob look great in The White House....I wonder, GG, CAN we make change possible? Some of us can try our best and support things like this fundraiser, vote for Kerry—but it's a damn big country...

Just know that many of us will choose Kerry, but how many choose Bush instead is the bigger nut to crack.

I'm thinking of a bumper sticker that I was behind the other day: Forest Green with white knockout type. Visual: a pine tree. Slogan: SAVE A TREE: REMOVE A BUSH.

    Sounds good to me.
    Love, Catherine

I know it’s hard, but you… WE, have to try.
