update to the Slovakian incident: the Slovakian authorities have identified a Slovakian policeman who made the infamous recording of Slovakian policemen shooting at a wooden figure named 'Hedvig' at the near Bratislava official police shooting range. He was also the one who had put up the video on YouTube on the first anniversary of the beating of Malina Hedvig. He has taken it off now from YouTube. The Slovakian police say the policeman making the video and putting it up on internet will be fired from the Slovakian police. Zoli

Yesterday I sent this (below) to my friends in email. --- For a day there has been unlimited time long strike by railway company workers in Hungary, parallising the whole railway transport in Hungary. They want payrise and there is no agreement with the company. The government is paranoid, and says opposition Fidesz is behind the railway company trade unions' strike... Another sad case in the 'reformed' healthcare: a 44 year old man died after a week in coma. A week ago at 7 am he had belly ache, and was taken to a far hospital, the one they said, by new law,he 'belongs to'. Then to another hospital and back, and examining other things at him what he had complain about...He was thought mentally ill...Only when he started vomitting blood, was his complaint taken seriously... By that time it was 7pm, so half a day had passed since the stomach ache started...He was operated but due to his mind left without oxigen for a long time, he fell into coma, and died a week later... By the way, my mother had eye problems on the first days of January, but due to the changes, she was only scheduled for January 22, so roughly 3 weeks later. It was really disgusting! Earlier she was scheduled within 2-3 days. As her eyes (intensive tearing) condition got just worse, after several telephone calls, finally she was scheduled earlier than 22 january. Now, after taking some oinment, her eyes condition got back to normal. But this whole long 'procedure' and the forced changes are so disgusting, after paying social insurance quite fairly for so long(she is a pensioner). Today was the first official 'secret' meeting of MSZP this year. Infamous liar 'socialist' PM Gyurcsany officially admitted to his party that in the past 1 and a half years, the government and MSZP have not been behaving and acting left-wing at all... At least, Gyurcsany now himself admitted that... after it was/is all known for everyone in the country... At the same time MSZP has officially declared it would practise sactions on those MSZP MPs who would say 'No' at the 11 February re-vote on the new healtcare law (which was rejected, vetoed by head of state Solyom Laszlo). Quite democratic pressure by MSZP on its MPs, isn't that...? The Romans had a saying... And the campaign for the 9 March (opposition Fidesz launched) Social Referendum has started...and the MSZP-SZDSZ government (as Gyurcsany admitted, including the 'non-left wing' MSZP) is campaigning against it in an intensive way, with the taxpayers money... It's such a 'great feeling'... :( best wishes, Zoli

news of yesterday's big referendum in Hungary: Yesterday there was a huge win at 'Social Referendum' for the '3 Yes' supporters , and whole Hungary to reject and cancel the MSZP-SZDSZ (social -liberal) government's related 'reform' laws, and policy which they have been forcing on people since the lies of infamous PM Gyurcsany came to daylight, -and he and his government have been acting in completely different way from their promises at the 2006 parliamentary election... Yesterday's Social Referendum was started by opposition Fidesz(centre-right wing) against the socially insensitive MSZP-SZDSZ, the ruling 'socialist-liberal' government. The referendum was started by Fidesz 1 and a half years ago, and the government had put all possible obstacles in the way to prevent people commenting on its general reform policy, which was going against people. The record turnout at the referendum over 50 % and the percent of the YES votes to reject the socialist-liberal (MSZP-SZDSZ) government's 'reform policy': hospital day-fee: YES 84.08% (NO 15.92%) healthcare visit fee:82.43% (NO 17.57%) tuition fee: 82.22% (NO 17.78%) 'Wingless' (non-socialist 'socialist') infamous liar PM Gyurcsany last night said about the really uncomfortable result for his MSZP party and SZDSZ that the 4 million voters who stayed away from the vote, didn't want to say YES... This is absolutely not true, as those who stayed at home were people who got really fed up with Gyurcsany and MSZP general policy and the PM's lies... When Gyurcsany last night referred to the mentioned 4 million staying at home and the way he was trying to reason about that got the attention of his coalition partner, liberal SZDSZ spokesman Horn Gabor, in the company of SZDSZ party leader, Koka Janos at SZDSZ party tent. Watching PM Gyurcsany saying that Horn Gabor commented the next -HirTV recorded Horn Gabor's remark words in video with sound, in good quality: 'Something is wrong here. Look at this tough group (for MSZP government), they are really tough. And how he looks with the glasses(for Gyurcsany). This is tough. No, Feri (for Gyurcsany), they haven't said that ( the voters, when Gyurcsany said 4 million didn't vote for Yes, stayed at home) , they have said : Get off'. Despite this evidence caught on the HirTV recording, later SZDSZ and Horn made apology to Gyurcsany... But the HirTV recording lets people 'view' the 'happy' coalition and some true, internal criticism... The plain fact is: The Yes votes at the referendum were over 3 million (all of them got around 3.3 million votes separately, one by one), showing former MSZP and SZDSZ voters shifting to Fidesz. This is a big move, and general tendency. In 2002 parliamentry election MSZP got 2.3 million votes, that was the biggest ever number for a party or issue, and now Fidesz launced Social Referendum Yes votes got 3.3 million, while No votes just 600 thousand. Some weeks ago there was a parliamentary by-election in Budapest 11th district, where previous candidate elections were sometimes won by Fidesz, sometimes by MSZP, but with no more than 5 percent diffence, the recent result was: 71% of votes for Fidesz (centre right wing)candidate 20.3% SZDSZ - MSZP common candidate(both government parties together, 'left-wing' liberal and socialist) 6.3 MDF (centre right wing) 2.4 MIEP (radical right wing) So the difference between Fidesz and MSZP (together with SZDSZ) at the by-election some weeks ago, was not 5 percent, but 51 %, with Fidesz winning!!! anyway, upon the result of yesterday's Social Referendum, PM Gyurcsany and healthcare minister, Horvath Agnes said the government would withdraw the related laws as soon as possible, on 1 April. Still no news of any 'changes' in the government... have a nice week! best wishes to all, Zoli

Today we commemorated the breakout of the 15 March, 1848 Hungarian revolution, and war for independence. This anniversary has always been very influential in Hungary's history. On this day, Hungarian people commemorate by wearing the national tri-colour rosette, the symbol of the 1848 revolution. We were presented by wonderful sunshine as well, perfect weather. . In Hungary there were 1000 different events held, linked to 15 March, 1848. I was at the biggest party, opposition Fidesz's commemoration event, which was peaceful, with several hundreds of thousands people in the neighbouring streets at Elizabeth's bridge, and on the main one, in Kossuth street- up to Astoria. There were several big screens, I was standing on Kossuth street, watching the great speakers, including Fidesz leader Orban Viktor. As always, Orban Viktor's speech was witty, eloquent, and down-to-earth. There was some added value this year, as it came just 6 days after the shiny referendum result where people clearly rejected the MSZP-SZDSZ government's 'reforms', and especially liar PM Gyurcsany. As the government think it would still go ahead with the healthcare changes under the pseudoname 'reform', andf not considering political consequences at all (people didn't voted for at the 2006 general parliamentary election), now there is big chance, if the 'socialist-liberal' government doesn't pull back its whole healthcare change plan, in the next referendum in the autumn, the governmnet parties will suffer an even more demolishing defeat (the 2008 autumn referendum was started by civilians, and want to abolish the whole governmentt healtcare 'reform'. One thing is sure, that turnover of voters will be even higher, around 60%, and the rejection percent is expected around 90% or more. As MSZP PM Gyurcsany and his government's SZDSZ healt minister, arrogant Horvath Agnes have been managing to alienate former MSZP and SZDSZ voters from both parties in quite a successful way. It's a mystery why MSZP and SZDSZ are still assisting digging their evident own graves... By that, they disqualify Hungarian'left-wing' for decades, and it would be really sad, normal people wouldn't like it(on either side). For SZDSZ, for example, may be disturbing that my mother managed to 'convert' a previous SZDSZ female voter (Margit neni) to vote with 'Yes' to reject the government's healthcare laws last Sunday at the referendum.(she was definitely not an Orban Viktor and Fidesz fan, but it seems the times are changin' ... Anyway, as I saw on tv now, there were some 'clashes' between some hundreds of radical protesters around 8pm. The masked radicals wanted to move to Muveszetek Palotaja from Blaha Lujza square, where PM Gyurcsany was giving a speech. However the police managed to stop them using tear gas, the protesters used molotov coctails, set fire to litter bins.It seems the radical crowd has dispersed now. Have a nice weekend! best wishes to all, Zoli

On 15 March, there was an incident in Kolozsvar, in the Transsylvanian area of Romania. Celebrating the anniversary of the 1848 Hungarian revolution, a young Hungarian man in Kolozsvar was going to a commemoration event, wearing the national tri-colour rosette. He was stopped by 8 extreme right wing Romanian men, and beat him very seriously. Later that day, upon hearing the news, and seeing the brutally beaten Hungarian man, two young Hungarians ,while passing the open -air group assembly of extreme right wing group of Romanians, whose members had beaten the Hungarian man, showed the group some obscene hand signs... The Romanian police, which were there too, fined the Hungarians (about 15 000 HUF) for their 'deed', but didn't do anything with the extreme right wing Romanians who beat the unfortunate Hungarian ethnic man... Strange things in an EU country (Romania) Have a nice week. best wishes to all, Zoli

On Friday in Budapest, in front of the Budapest Chinese Embassy, Szajer Jozsef, opposition Fidesz (centre-right wing) EU Parliament fraction leader, and Balog Zoltan (Fidesz), chairman of the human rights parliament committee, with other members of Liberty Circle, set white doves free, calling attention at Tibet and the need for freedom and human rights in the area and in the world. They also called for the diplomacy boycott of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. There was another protest at the same venue, organized by the Hungarian Tibet Supporters' Association, showing the shocking pics on big placards, the tortured victims of oppression, the killings by Chinese military men and authorities. latest about Hungarian politics - including the government crisis... On Friday morning, in front of two downtown Fidesz offices in Budapest(Lendvai and Cukor street ones, 5th and 6th districts), egg-shape grenades were found. They were original, but not explosion able. Fidesz got a warning email and letter too, in which the 'senders' point to the fact that 'these bombs are just innocent child toys, but the next ones will kill'. From the language used, and the characters and symbols, Fidesz 5th district mayor, Rogan Antal suspects they were possibly sent by extreme right wingers. Anyway, on Saturday ( 30 March) Fidesz celebrated its 20th anniversary- in 1988 Fidesz was founded in Budapest by 37 university and college students. Some days ago Szonda Ipsos opinion poll company published the first poll after the March 9 sweeping Fidesz success Social Referendum. It points out that since the 1990 system change no Hungarian party has had such big support as opposition Fidesz is having now- in case of a parliamentary election, it would mean 3/4 majority for Fidesz, while the smaller government party, and a catastrophic outcome for MSZP (the 'socialist'). The survey also shows SZDSZ, the 'liberals' with 2% 'performance', which means, they wouldn't get into the parliament, whose threshold is 5%. The smaller opposition party, centre-right wing MDF would get only 3%, -similar 'fate' to SZDSZ..., also shows the wrong policy of David Ibolya, MDF head, in the past years, against Fidesz, and not criticising world infamous liar MSZP PM Gyurcsany enough when people completely have got fed up with his generally idiotic policies. No wonder, in the past weeks MDF has been changing its policy, and severely criticising Gyurcsany, and stopped 'dealing with' Fidesz... some days ago The Economist severely criticised Hungary's economy, and the MSZP-SZDSZ government's 'deeds'... Anyway, yesterday at MSZP weekend party meeting PM Gyurcsany surprised his party and coalition partner, SZDSZ with declaring to fire SZDSZ health minister, Horvath Agnes, and rethink the coalition program with SZDSZ. Though Gyurcsany lied that he had consulted with SZDSZ about that, SZDSZ only learnt about his 'declaration' from the media, from the MSZP party meeting. SZDSZ sticks to the minister, and it seems tomorrow there is chance SZDSZ will leave the coalition... By the way, have you ever heard of ministers physically attacking members of the media...? In Hungary MSZP finance minister, Veres Janos, simply went for HirTV reporter and cameraman, Mr C saszar, pushing him and his camera. The minister has several scandals, (financial as well) and the reporter just wanted to do his usual work in the empty corridor corner, when the minister lost his mind... Its true, HirTV is a very dynamic news channel, has more and more former MSZP party supporter viewers, who learnt about scandals, which turn out to be right... It can be puzzling for a minister who is not always doing his work according to law... Anyway, next to MSZP crisis, SZDSZ has its own, next to the really poor popularity at the polls... SZDSZ, the 'liberal' party has a very seriuos crisis going on, and noone knows if the party split into two or not... And all this is because in February HirTV showed pieces of evidence of the cheatings at last year's SZDSZ party president vote, and management election.Last year, in the first round, the two candidate's got equal votes, but in the second the present one, Koka won. Now it turned out that there were 'additional people' voting for Koka, in the name of poeple who were not at all present at the vote, forging their signatures. so that way he could 'defeat' the moderate Fodor Gabor, who wanted to renew the party, and lead it back to its original liberal roots - which would have been much better for general Hungarian politics as well, as he is accepted by the opposition as well. As recently Koka changed Fodor with 'cheating', environmnet protection minister Fodor Gabor, who is much higher at polls than his own party, and a successful minister in his field, decided to suspend his SZDSZ membership till new election is held, together with 3 other prominent SZDSZ management member, including their sussessful EU parliament member, Szent-Ivanyi Istvan. They demand new party leader and management election, while the Koka 'branch' is resisting that...I wonder why... On Monday SZDSZ will have a party management meeting, where they will decide on different issues... I guess, there would be a much better atmosphere in Hungary, if MSZP could have a leader from Szili Katalin's circle(MSZP parliament head), or from Fodor Gabor /Szent-Ivanyi Istvan from SZDSZ. They would be more open to normal talks with Fidesz /opposition leaders, as the artificial tension, and separatism that Gyurcsany brought and pserad in Hungary, not only in political life, but among everyday people as well, would disappear. It's not that they would agree with Fidesz on everything, or Fidesz would agree with them on everything, but the mutual respect and attention to each other would be a standard and prevailing feature. At least the chance could be there. In my personal opinion, Fodor and Szent-Ivanyi should think of founding a new liberal party,(maybe leaving SZDSZ behind), which could be a kind of green-liberal party, with classic liberal, and not neo-liberal mind. Maybe Szili Katalin and her circle in MSZP should think of founding a new social democratic party, which is completely void of idiots like liar PM Gyurcsany and his circle... it seems there will be an early general election in Hungary, taking some facts. As right now there is no significant left wing party in Hungary, Fidesz, the centre-right wing party is attracting disappointed former left wingers. One thing is sure, infamous liar PM Gyurcsany, in the midst of his hunger for unlimited power, managed to discredit the word 'left wing' in Hungary, and hurt left wingers in general. I would say, there must be 'a few' left wingers who think they are completely cheated, and probably 'feel' the word ' left wing' as a negative one, thanks to Gyurcsany and MSZP.Maybe they even feel ashamed in a way, but they shouldn't... Gyurcsany and his circle, together with the neo-liberal SZDSZ branch, completely misled them. Anyway, Fidesz is not only a classic centre-right wing party in Hungary, but is successfully representing classic left wing values as well, especially in this 'left-wingless' time in Hungary... see Roger Waters' concert dvd (In the Flesh- Portland,Oregon)- very good!! have a nice coming week! best wishes to all, Zoli

Yesterday morning infamous liar Hungarian 'socialist' PM Gyurcsany announced the firing of SZDSZ ('liberal') health minister, Horvath Agnes. SZDSZ reacted the way that the liberals would withdraw all their (SZDSZ) ministers from the government from 30 April, and this means the end of the Gyurcsany government. SZDSZ can't imagine governing with Gyurcsany any more. But MSZP is still supporting Gyurcsany, and now the chance is minority government. As both MSZP and SZDSZ are quite unpopular in Hungary, neither party risks thinking of early elections, and would rather try to 'prolong' their 'operation' ... By Hungary's strange, old constitution it is possible... The question is how long... But experts say that full support given to Gyurcsany is only formal in MSZP, and soon his fate is inevitable, and knocking on the door... So replacing the PM is quite possible. have a nice day! best, Z
