Great report, Catherine, and I share JC´s sentiments entirely.

"Merlot", huh? I sense you may be a kindred spirit. I have shares in a Chilean vineyard.

    Stella:

Thank you, I just wrote what I felt from what I saw and heard. About the cold—we just didn't know that it was outside (I would never trust myself to show up dressed as I was with my intolerance to cold)! "The Singer Home." It sounded like a home for the elderly that had some sort of theater which we had never heard of—I didn't know it was actually someone's house. I suppose that's what pre-concert drive-by's are for. I've learned my lesson well!

    Lefty:

Thank you, too. Oh, yes, Merlot! Especially in the winter months (although warm weather doesn't stop me either). Many of the reds I buy are from Chile—I wonder if I have been drinking the wine of Mr. and Mrs. Lefty and never knew it! Also, I have a book of wine labels (the ones I like), and where I purchased them. It's dreadful to find something you love as a first try, and then not remember where you bought the thing—I was quite proactive on this wine label thing when I found out how to do it!

Dare I ask your brand name? After all, if we're Merlot drinkers and like Chilean wines on the Tow—why not support another Towie? You can buy another pair of boots and another bottle of Remy with the profits

    Catherine,

I am rather partial to Casa Lapostolle Merlot from the Napel Valley. The estate is owned by the French great-granddaughter of the founder of Grand Marnier. This wine has classic aromas: ripe blackberry, plum, black pepper, earth and a twinge of roasted green bell pepper.

At between $12-16, one could, if so inclined, savour 4-5 bottles per week.

    Lefty:

Have a couple of questions, so I will direct them to your personal address, if you don't mind. Kerry/Edwards and wine all sound good to me, but I don't want to bore others who may not be interested.

    Look there for mail.

BTW—just to keep the topic relevant—it is Friday, election day is Tuesday, and I have yet to get my sample ballot in the mail. Anyone having this same problem—call your Town Hall and scream; and if you do not know where you are listed to vote in your town, call: 1-800-MYVOTE1 and they will direct you by entering your zip code.

    Best, Catherine

As I pointed out to Catherine in my e, "Napel" should have read "Rapel". It was a wine-induced typo.

A bit late to this one, but just couldn't leave Ruth Blumit out on a limb like that.

I have to say, after years of listening to Suzanne's lyrics and music, her words of wisdom in emails, articles and journals, I, too, was flabberghasted to discover, with the announcement of this benefit, that Suzanne is NOT in fact a right-wing, war-mongering fascist!

    Who knew???!!!

I'm equally shocked, Anna. And now that Bush has scored his appalling victory in the election, I fear for what vengeance the all-powerful Ruth Blumit might wreak on Suzanne's career. Just think of it: Ruth might persuade Suzanne's record company not to renew her contract, or might persuade Clear Channel not to run any of Suzanne's new singles on the radio, or might keep the "Last Year's Troubles" video off heavy rotation on MTV. Country-music stations might sponsor mass burnings of her CD's, like they did with the Dixie Chicks; at the very least, country stations will refuse to play her songs, like they did to Sleater-Kinney and Pearl Jam.

Hell hath no fury like a Ruth Blumit scorned!

In all seriousness, I want to offer Suzanne my heartfelt thanks for speaking up as she did and supporting the change we still need in this country. The 48% of Americans who voted with you will stand behind you, SuzyV.

    No retreat. No surrender.

-- Bob, off to the bathroom to Blumit last night's dinner
