I predicted that i would buy a mouse trap. Or two. And some poison. And that's what happened.

I realy see this song as quite fastinating. I thought there would have been more posts. With so many references to tools that predict the future it realy intrests me.
For just the mention of water, I often listen to the rain or the shower shape words(not with my hearing aids of course). Suzanne's song "Rusted Pipe", I belive I've heard pipe water's gurgling sentences. And "Language as liquid", there is so much intertwined crossing content in her work.
I,(and Carl Jung), can very much see dreams to be a prediction tool. While we are asleep and our mind is sorting out the previous days events, naturally it can see what will be the next occurance.(? night vision?).
I would so much love to learn the secrets of all these prediction tools. I love the birdlife in my area, and sometimes there has been disasters happen while the day and days before, different flocks have acted very peculier.
These days my intrests have been (pebbles drawn from a heap), Runes (some of you in the Sweeden country area might bring some light on this topic for me). I made a set of runes from rocks off the beach that I keep in a leather draw string bag, but mostly, the rocks I find on the beach that have natural rune shape designs realy intrest me. Sometimes there will be one odvious rune mark, sometimes two or three shapes joined together, I enjoy trying to read there meanings.
"Predictions" the song, moves me in a way that "Pilgrimage,Song of Sand, Songs in Red and Gray, St.Clare, Rosemary,Calypso," well a lot off "Solitude Standing" and "Days Of Open Hand".
Anyway, might go jump in the water and find a good rock to read.
I hope to meet you all one day, Berndog.

Every time I listen to this song I was feeling that something was missing in those lines and now I found what's missing:
    Coffee cups!
In "Predictions" Suzanne mentions nearly every method of telling future except the coffee cups. :-)
It's the most common way of telling future where I live.
People drink coffee and then close the plate on the coffee cup and turn it upside down. After waiting a while to cool the cup, they tell the future by the marks that the coffee left in the cup.(Turkish coffee is a little denser than regular coffee so it leaves different shapes on the cup)

    just wanted to share this

    love;

    Zeynep

There is a progression from this song later on.

"...looking for your fingerprints, I find them in coincidence..."

yes, both "predictions" and "penitent" are songs questioning the future and asking for guidance. "predictions" assembles everyday objects and ways that "will tell you something". "penitent" is much more insistent in its query and daring in its quest since it directs everything to a "You" whom you may or may not obey in the end.

but there's another song i always put together with these two and that's "pilgrimage", because at the root of all of them is the need to find and fulfill what one's meant to do, and hopefully leave a mark, make a difference: "an inch and a step toward a source" and drawing one's "fist against eternity".

so the connection, to me, is more between "pilgrimage" and "penitent". and actually in that penitent there's a pilgrim still.
