Sometimes you just get lucky ...
Last night (Wednesday, April 7) I came home (in Washington, DC) at 9:00pm and turned on the TV to unwind. My 10th channel surfing click brought SV on screen singing Luka with her band! And what a treat!
Thje performance was in a studio with a small audience. Video of her singing selected songs - Luka, Blood Makes Noise, Widow's Walk, Maggie May, and Last Year's Troubles were the ones I heard - was interspersed with a one-on-one interview.
The music was VERY well produced - great sound quality and the instruments were just the right balance with her voice! Suzanne seemed to get better and better as the 1/2 hour show progressed - she looked fabulous and used the camera to look directly at the viewer and tell each song's storyline with her eyes. Very beautiful and very intimate!
The only weakness was the interviewer, a jerk who asked the most banal, ridiculous questions - he seemed more interested in displaying his knowledge and "sensitivity" than in really connecting with her. Suzanne is the consummate pro, however, patiently answering his self-serving questions. I don't know how she manages to avoid laughing in the face or being mean to these "music journalism" jokers - this one was particularly 'out-of-touch'.
Back to being lucky - that I should arrive home at the right time, that I should happen to turn on the TV right away (I rarely do that), and that I should channel-surf almost directly to Suzanne Vega in concert! Indeed, sometimes great things come out of nowhere ...
Regards to all from Washington, DC!
Richard
