I went to the website for The Stephen Talkhouse, and they have the date for Suzanne's gig posted as, and I'll quote
"96-7 EHM Celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special concert series at the TALKHOUSE!
Series kicks off Saturday, April 19th, 8pm with Suzanne Vega!"
    Vega.net has Friday, August 29 as the date. Which is correct?}

    Hi Kenny!

Nice to see you here - (literally! Great shot from the Virgin in-store!).

The answer to your question is both! Suzanne played at the Stephen Talkhouse on April 19th, and will also play there on August 29th.

    Best,
    Eric

    Dear Towies,

Does anyone know if the Stephen Talkhouse accepts ticket bookings from overseas? I've taken a look at their ticketing page, and it looks as if only orders from the US and Canada are accepted.

Another question regarding the Stephen Talkhouse: is it easy for non-drivers (like me!) to get there and around the city? And is it possible, you think, to make it from the Stephen Talkhouse concert to the one in Hartford, purely by public transport?!

If everything goes well, hope to fly into New York for the concert(s?) on Aug 29 itself! Have waited more than 15 years to catch Suzanne's concert live, so am feeling very nervous....

    yours,
    suporn

    Hi Suporn!

    Wow, great news!!

You wrote, "Does anyone know if the Stephen Talkhouse accepts ticket bookings from overseas?"

I don't know but you can email them: info@stephentalkhouse.com

If you strike out with them, let me know and I'll buy the tickets for you and mail them out, if you'll cover the postage/insurance.

Amagansett is ~110 miles from NYC, so you'll either need to share a ride with a NYC-based 'Towie, or take the train.

You can find the Long Island Railroad website here: http://www.lirr.org/lirr/index.html

You'll want the schedule from Penn Station to Amagansett and vice versa. (Make sure you can get back that night unless you want to book a hotel in Amagansett.)

It'll be tough to go from Amagansett to Hartford by public transportation, but it's doable.. Might be easier to find a fellow 'Towie willing to maybe do the driving if you'll get the tix or something..? Just a thought.

    Talk to you soon,
    E

    Dear Eric,

You're the best! I'll definitely drop the folks at Stephen Talkhouse an email; keeping my fingers crossed in the meantime! Thanks very much for the kind offer, will let you know how it goes. I thought I read somewhere on their online ticketing site, though, that credit card orders are only for "will call" delivery. Will have to check on that.

I've looked at the LIRR website, and the last train that leaves Amagansett on Friday night is just before 11 pm, so I might opt to take the early Saturday morning train instead, which should give me enough time to get to Hartford by a decent hour (hey, after a 22-hour flight, anything's possible, right?!)

Thanks once again for being such a brilliant repository of info and good advice! You rock!

    best,
suporn (suddenly feeling like I'm in the Amazing Race!)

Sorry about the delayed posting on the concerts, I came back to work only to find that someone had messed with my computer, my hard drive was totally wiped out and I lost everything on it. It took a couple of days, but I think things are slowly getting back on track again, "slowly" being the operative word here, since the computer's still running on a Pentium I chip (yes, there are still those around, believe it or not).

Amagansett is a small town, just a few hours away from Manhattan by train. I was with my friend Agnes, and we arrived late in the afternoon, which gave us plenty of time to just wander around and get our bearings right. We located the Stephen Talkhouse quite easily, and from the outside, we could hear Suzanne singing lines from "Harbor Song". It was totally enthralling, and I couldn't believe that I was actually in the same town that she's in, and that I will be seeing her perform live in just a few hours.

We went inside the Stephen Talkhouse a little after 7 pm, and there were already quite a number of people who have settled in and were nursing their drinks. It's a really cosy place, very intimate, with tables and seats pushed right up to the front of the stage. Where I was sitting, I had a great view of Suzanne.

The show started a little later than scheduled, around 8.30 pm. Suzanne looked terrific, dressed all in black - lacy blouse, black pants, long black jacket, and leather boots. Her skin is like porcelain, and she positively glowed. She addressed the audience and bantered with them, asking how many people had also attended the Stephen Talkhouse gig at the start of the tour, and how they had spent their summer. She also told an amused crowd about how she considers this her last performance on this tour, even though there was going to be another performance at Hartford the following night, "but that doesn't really count". It got everyone applauding and cheering.

The atmosphere was laid back and casual, even though everyone was aware of the filming that was going on throughout the show. Some of the crowd favorites were "Caramel", "Gypsy", and "Left of Center". Everyone loved the story of "Gypsy", and there was a very excited member of the audience who engaged in a short conversation with Suzanne. She said she was a journalist from CNN.

The sound was fantatstic, and crystal clear. I loved the cathedral effect on "Tom's Diner", and it was hilarious watching Mike goofing around on "Solitaire". He cracked everybody up, including Suzanne herself. The bass on "Left of Center" was simply amazing, and the band rocked!

For the encore, Suzanne sang "Priscilla" and ended the set fittingly with "Rosemary". I'm sure everyone there will remember that night for a long time to come.

I didn't get to meet any Towies there, but there was a nice chap who presented Suzanne with flowers. After the show, I went up to say hello to Glynn, who is the most delightful human being on earth. I couldn't stay for long because we had to catch the last train back to Manhattan, but I could very well have just floated all the way back. What a great night.
