I don't have much to say about this song, but since it doesn't have its own thread/discussion yet, I figured it was time. I think it sounds beautiful, though it's not one of my faves. Maybe one of the reasons it hasn't garnered any discussion on (this version of) the Undertow is because it's more in the somewhat rare category of "love songs" for SV?

I do really like the lyrics "and we can only say yes now, to the sky, to the street, to the (night? light? - don't remember)"

I love this song, it represents the minimalist style of Suzanne Vega, thats why it's a little hard and obscure to understand the story about which the song's being narrated. But it's also good, because you can have your own interpretation of song.

another game (freeze tag) used as a metaphor (see the thread on "solitaire"). to me, though, it is the whole atmosphere of the song, the cinematic feeling of it, with its cadence of images, that really grab me. it's as if i'm seeing everything running like a beautiful black & white short movie in my mind's eye.

Freeze Tag was a bit of a grower, for me - always liked it, but never fully appreciated it until I saw Suzanne perform it on a Swedish TV special set in a cafe, that was shown on one of the UK TV channels sometime around the time Solitude Standing was released. It supplanted 'Small Blue Thing' as my favourite SV song, and I suppose it still holds that status.

But I still haven't heard 'Days Of Open Hand' or 'Songs in Red and Gray', and I'm only just acquainting myself with 'Nine Objects Of Desire' :D
