Under the new Fidesz Lord Mayor, Istvan Tarlos, and Fidesz majority in the Budapest metropolitan assembly, now Elvis Presley can become honorary citizen of Budapest and a square will be named after him for what he boldly did for Hungarians in early 1957, helping the victims of the revolution that was put down by soviet tanks and Hungarian communists. During the previous Budapest metropolitan assemblies (led by SZDSZ lord mayor Gabor Demszky) Fidesz constantly demanded that Budapest should clearly deprive infamous dictator Stalin, and general Haynau of the Budapest honorary citizen title, but the previous MSZP-SZDSZ (socialist-liberal) leadership of Budapest rejected the suggested change… Now the change is here and coming. Nice to hear there is a redeeming side to some of our much-maligned culture. Elvis rocks the establishment behind the Iron Curtain as well as in the USA.
It must be the expression of freedom that they hate, which he was personifying so well.
